What This Is

The loops are short pieces from the studio, each one cut to come back round on itself. Switch one on and it plays without a seam. Switch on a second and the two sit together at whatever levels you give them.

The desk is the same idea as the old media players with the equalizer window open and the screen bouncing above it, built for this site in plain script. Nothing on the page comes from anywhere but this domain, and the audio is decoded and mixed inside your browser rather than streamed from a player somebody else runs. A press of Play is the only thing it needs from you; browsers will not start sound without one.

House Rules

The library

Every loop is a chip in the library. Press one and it comes down onto the desk as a strip, switched on. Press it again to send it back, and Remove on the strip does the same. The desk starts with the first loop on it.

Strips

Each strip has its own switch, level and pan. A loop switched on while the desk is stopped waits for Play, and a loop switched off fades out over a second rather than cutting.

Equalizer

Ten bands from 60 Hz to 16 kHz, twelve decibels either way. Flat puts every band back to the middle.

The screen

Bars or a scope, drawn from the mix as it plays. Off leaves the desk running with the screen dark, which is easier on a laptop battery.

Full screen

The button under the screen, or F on a keyboard. The picture is drawn at the size of your screen rather than stretched.

Downloads

Download on a strip fetches the loop as a 24-bit FLAC, the same depth as the master. The button asks your browser to do about a second of arithmetic first, which is what stands between the files and anything that is not a person, and there is a limit of ten a day from one address.

Formats

Loops are served as Opus where the browser can decode it and as FLAC where it cannot. Both come back round without a gap, which MP3 does not, and which is the reason the desk does not use it.

Settings

Your levels, the equalizer, what is on the desk and which loops are on are kept in your browser's own storage and sent nowhere. Clearing site data clears them; the privacy page covers where they live.
